Accessibility statement for My Well Record

This accessibility statement applies to https://www.mywellrecord.co.uk/

This website is run by Health Diagnostics Ltd and allows users to access their NHS Health Check results. Health Diagnostics Ltd is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone, and applying the relevant accessibility standards.

We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website to make positive lifestyle improvements. That means you should be able to:

  • Using the browser settings you can Zoom in up to 300% without the text going off the screen or being obscured by images
  • Navigate most of the website using just a keyboard, including menus and gaining access to print a copy of the health check report. There are bold boxes, or grey shading indicating where the cursor/focus is when using the keyboard to navigate.
  • Listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver). JAWS appears to work best for advising how to navigate and use the screen whilst NVDA reads out the majority of the text available on screen clearly. For use on Apple devices the built in VoiceOver reads out the text clearly.
  • Read score levels that are also indicated by traffic light colours if unable to distinguish the colours as intended.
  • Use the audio option on CAPTCHA if you need to use the ‘Contact Us’ page
  • Use the tutorial to help you understand how to use the site or if not required you can skip the tutorial easily.

We’ve tried to make the website text as simple as possible to understand. AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know that some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • You cannot modify the line height or spacing of text
  • You cannot skip to the main content when using a screen reader, however if you use NVDA you can click on the main content, or press space bar to move down a screen to access the main content quicker.
  • The icon images in each heading are not described when using a screen reader, but they are for design purposes only.
  • The CVD risk graph images are not described when using a screen reader but the risk score and heart age results are read out by screen readers.
  • You cannot manually extend the time limit to remain on the page when it is inactive, however you will only be logged out for security purposes after 10 minutes of inactivity (i.e. the mouse pointer has not moved and no keys have been pressed within 10 minutes).

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Accessibility of My Well Record relies on the following technologies to work with the particular combination of web browser and any assistive technologies or plugins installed on your computer:

  • HTML
  • JavaScript

These technologies are relied upon for conformance with the accessibility standards used.

Compliance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. We are currently working towards complying with Level AA.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Some images do not have a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content).

  • CVD risk graphic: The CVD risk graph images are not described when using a screen reader but the risk score and heart age results are read out by screen readers. We are in the process of adding text descriptions for the graphics.
  • Icons: Icon images next to headings on the results section do not currently have text alternatives; however, they are only for design purposes and the headings are read out by screen readers. We are in the process of adding text descriptions for the icons to improve the experience.

We plan to add text alternatives for all images by May 2021.

When we publish new content we’ll make sure our use of images meets accessibility standards.

The time limit for auto-logout after inactivity cannot be manually adjusted or turned off. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.2.1 (timing adjustable)

  • Manually extending inactive time: You cannot manually extend the time allowed to remain on the screen when inactive, (i.e. the mouse pointer is not moved or the keys are not pressed for 10 minutes).

We plan to add a warning message when the inactivity is at 10 minutes, giving 3 additional minutes before auto-logout by May 2021.
